Confused by the term responsive web design? Not sure if your site is responsive? A site designed with responsive web design adapts the layout to the viewing environment. This results in optimal viewing whether you’re using a desktop computer, a tablet or a mobile device.
With more and more consumers using multiple devices to access the internet, it’s critical your website is viewable and easy to use on all platforms and devices. If customers have to pan and scroll to view your website they will quickly become frustrated and move on.
So how do you know if your site is responsive? You can view your site using a mobile phone or if you’re using a desktop/laptop computer simply resize your browser until it’s a slim window similar to a mobile phone screen. If all the page elements reposition themselves so that you only have a vertical scrollbar then your site is responsive. If you need to scroll sideways to view the content then your site isn’t responsive.
Aside from making life easier for your customers to do business with you, there’s another important reason to go ‘mobile friendly’. Google now ‘rewards’ websites that are optimised for mobile and will rank them higher than a nonresponsive site in mobile search results. Are you prepared to come second to your competitor?
